Driving north from Reykjavik and through the Hvalfjordur tunnel we reach Snaefellsness peninsular. We spend the day exploring the stunning coastline with visits to the black timber church at Budir, the Arnarstappi coastal cliffs of columnar basalt and during the summer season, nesting bird colonies. Along the coast we spend time exploring the black sand beaches and lava stacks at Djupalon and stop off at one of the small fishing villages surrounded by mountains and nestling in sheltered bays. Throughout much of our journey around the peninsular we will have views of the snaefellsjokull glacier and be surrounded by the natural beauty of high mountains, fjords and bird colonies.
